Timber Frame with Masonry Outer Leaf

This traditional hybrid system combines the structural efficiency of an engineered timber frame with the durability and classic aesthetics of a masonry external skin. The inner structural frame carries the primary vertical and lateral building loads, while an outer leaf of brickwork or stone provides weather protection and thermal mass. A clear, drained cavity is maintained between the timber frame and the masonry, complete with a damp-proof course, vapor-permeable membrane, and stainless steel wall ties. This cavity prevents moisture ingress while allowing the frame to breathe, creating a robust, low-maintenance exterior with high thermal performance.
