TR-07 – Window Head with Proprietary Steel Cavity-Wall Lintel

This construction detail shows a typical window-head junction within a rendered masonry cavity wall using a proprietary insulated steel cavity-wall lintel.

The drawing illustrates the inner and outer masonry leaves, partial-fill cavity insulation, clear residual cavity, insulated steel lintel, cavity tray, soffit insulation and internal plasterboard finish. It also identifies the minimum overlap between the window frame and insulated zone to help maintain thermal continuity around the opening.

Lintel type, length and load capacity must be selected for the actual opening, masonry, floor and roof loads. Installation must follow the lintel manufacturer’s current technical information and the requirements of the project designer, structural engineer and Building Control.
