Egress window detail: This illustrated drawing sets out the dimensional and operational requirements for emergency escape windows within dwellings.
Internal and external elevations show a typical escape window with a minimum unobstructed openable area of 0.33m² and no clear opening dimension below 450mm. The bottom of the clear opening is shown no more than 1100mm above finished floor level.
The opening principle demonstrates how hinges, stays and handles must not reduce the required clear area. The window should remain readily openable from inside without a key, with the external area beneath kept clear to provide a safe route away.
